JANUARY 1ST : SHOW #1401: We start the new year with a look at  some of our favorite restaurants and meals. Included in this segment will be trips to The German House Restaurant STOCKBRIDGE, Portage Point Inn of ONEKAMA, The Embers of MT PLESANT, The Big O Fish House of CALEDONIA, The Family Circle Restaurant of GRAYLING, Michigan Brand Meats in BAY CITY, Maple Valley Restaurant of PRUDENVILLE.

Plus we stop by the Garner Residents for Walleye cheeks and Deep fried Turkey  as prepared by Bob Garner and Friends. On this edition we also welcome CMU’s Tom  Endres into the Michigan Magazine Museum kitchen for one of his favorite  recipes. Then into the home of Debbie Ladd of PERRY Michigan for her famous  Potato and Tuna salad recipes. Then Wildlife cookbook author Kaye Richey shares  her Caribou casserole with the Michigan Magazine crew. Lots of good eatin’ this  week!

JANUARY 8TH : SHOW #1402 Show Hosts Dell Vaughan and Barry  Stutesman take us on another brand new whirlwind tour of some of their favorite  Michigan people and places. Scheduled stops include, Maxfields of WYMAN, Peggy’s  Memory Lane of BIG RAPIDS, Fashions for Feet of FRASER, Whisper in the Woods Magazine of TRAVERSE CITY, Woodland Creek Free Form Furniture and crafts of  KALKASKA, EAST JORDAN Glass, The Flour Garden restaurant of HARRISVILLE, Netta’s  Bakery of POSEN, Fairview Family Restaurant FAIRVIEW, Toni’s Country Kitchen of LARIUM and Ilowski’s Sausage House of CHINA TWP.

On this edition we welcome Garneta Vaughan into the Michigan Magazine Kitchen  as Dell prepares her delicious Zucchini bread. We also venture North to Canada’s Magpie river for a fresh Walleye fish fry!

 

JANUARY 15TH : SHOW #1403: Barry visits with master Puppeteer  Martin Robinson. Marty is best known for the Sesame Street Characters SNUFFY, SLIMY, and TELLY MONSTER. We visit with Martin at the family vacation compound just north of the Michigan Magazine Museum!

JANUARY 22ND : SHOW #1404: Dell takes us to a Buffalo Dinner at the West Forest United Methodist Church. This is the 23rd annual  old fashioned Buffalo BBQ that has raised thousands for area charities. You may  contact them at: (989) 871-2374

JANUARY 28TH: SHOW #1405: Highlights of the 2002 MICHIGAN  MAGAZINE MUSEUM Michigan Country show! Michigan country legends from all corners  of the state converge on the grounds for two days of  music!

FEBRUARY 5TH : SHOW #1406: Dell  visits with Mr. Michigan Outdoors, the late Mort Neff at his HARBOR SPRINGS  home. In this segment Dell also visits with Mort’s eldest daughter Joey Arbaugh  and his Son Jay Neff about growing up the children of Mr. Michigan Outdoors.

Barry returns to KALKASKA to the Shetler Dairy Farm. The small run family operation processes their own milk products utilizing organically fed  cattle. It’s another step back In time as the family oversees every aspect of their operation from cattle breeding to delivering the milk to market in old fashion glass bottles. Phone:(231) 258-8216

FEBRUARY 19TH : SHOW #1408: Another  whirlwind tour of Michigan adventures including stops in KINGSTON, COMINS, ROCKFORD, GLADWIN, POSEN, MT. PLESANT, CLARKSTON, SHELBY, EAST PORT, FREELAND, ROGERS CITY, MEARS, ROCHESTER, BAY CITY, CALUMET, WEST BRANCH, KALAMAZOO, AND LANSING.

FEBRUARY 26TH : SHOW #1409: Barry and  the Michigan Magazine crew visit with Wayne Ader of REESE who constructs Bunk beds for pets! He is also one of the state’s most ambitious ”antique radio” collectors. Phone: (989) 868-4511

Then Dell travels to Otsego Wildlife Legacy Society headquarters in  GAYLORD to visit with Floyd ”Red” Bruce. Red has been a decoy carver for the  past forty years, living near Otsego Lake in Gaylord. Phone: (989) 732-8307

MARCH 5TH : SHOW #1410: Dell travels to MILFORD where we visit with Carl R. Sams II and Jean F. Stoick, professional wildlife photographers whose pictures have appeared in national and  international publications including Airone, National Geographic, Audubon, Michigan Natural Resources and many more! Then Barry meets magician Duane Fisher of FLINT and witnesses his Sixth Dimension of Magic. Duane is said to be the world's only known totally  blind professional magician, mentalist and illusionist. Dispite this handicap he performs his magic flawlessly before an elementary school audience in CALEDONIA,  Michigan.

MARCH 19TH : SHOW #1412: Dell returns  to the Michigan Magazine Museum to continue his tour of the Gardens with Museum Gardner Nelson Yoder.

Then Barry takes look back at the devastating tornado that struck  COMINS Michigan back on July 3rd 1999 and how the community has rebounded from total destruction to reconstruction that includes a new park dedicated in honor of local pioneer Ferd Stutesman.

MARCH 26TH : SHOW #1413: The Michigan  Magazine crew heads to BRIGHTON, Michigan and the first ever Brighton International Film Festival. The festival highlights the film making of high school students from the Brighton Michigan area as well as Tokyo, New York and Berlin. Visit them on the web at:

APRIL 2ND : SHOW #1414: Dell travels to POKAGON, in Southwestern Lower Michigan, the site of the first ever public performance of the classic hymn THE OLD RUGGED CROSS written by Michigander, the Reverend  George Bennard. Since our visit back in the early 90s the old Methodist church has been taken over by a non profit, multi-denominational organization dedicated to renovating the structure and developing beautiful surrounding meditation  gardens.

Then Barry travels to GLADWIN and Stone Cottage Gardens. Here a husband and  wife team give up the hectic city life to create acres of beautiful Day Lilies for resale. Their new lifestyle has blossomed into a virtual gardening education center.

Barry visits David and Mary Bickley of HILLMAN, owners of Marble Era Prducts.  Here we learn of one families determination and the sequence of events that  created a unique custom cast polymer business providing one of a kind granite  and marble like fixtures for bathrooms and kitchens.

MAY 7TH: SHOW #1419: Barry ventures to the SANFORD LAKE area of northern Michigan to visit with Christian recording artis/computer consultant and now Cross Maker, John Harnick. Barry returns to COMINS to continue his story on the restoration of the Oscoda County Community following the devastating Tornado of 1999! We follow the process of creating the bronze bust of local pioneer Ferdinand Stutesman that will be the focal point of a new township historical park being constructed in the downtown area near the Caboose Historical Museum.

MAY 21ST: SHOW #1421: Barry travels to Amish country near BLANCHARD. Here Steve and Lynette Henson purchased and renovated an old Amish farm into a Maple Syrup producing enterprise. They not only produce fresh Maple Syrup but also candy, maple sugar, maple cream, maple butter, maple jelly and winter spiced maple drink! MAY 28TH: SHOW #1422: Dell travels to The Sausage House and German Restaurant in STOCKBRIDGE for an update on their new menu! We visit with new owners Ron and Lori Neucomb. Then Barry visits with Author Barbara Yoder of CHASE near Reed City. Barbara and her husband left the life of strict Amish tradition over ten years ago. Barbara has authored the book Finding the Way. The wonderful piece of fiction tells of hardships in growing up in a large Amish family and how it created a bond between best friends. Barbara tells how her writing was drawn from first hand experience, living in the Amish community most of her life, the youngest of a large family.
